Soap Making Abbreviations Made EASY!

Do you have trouble remembering all of the abbreviations and acronyms used by soap makers? Use this list to help guide you!

As a beginner, it is your responsibility to perform an ample amount of research before beginning your soap making journey. When doing this research, you will quickly find out that many soap makers use abbreviations to describe their process. Unfortunately, this can be really confusing for beginners. Abbreviations make the process of “soap talk” so much easier because it reduces the amount of time, energy, and space needed to write down all of the information needed.

I have compiled a short list of the most commonly used abbreviations used in the soap making world.

Language lesson: An acronym is an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words that is pronounceable as a word. An example of this would be NASA, a recognizable word that stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. An initialism is made up of letters of some name or phrase, usually the first letter of each word as is common with acronyms. An example of an initialism would be FBI which stands for Federal Bureau of Investigation. In our list we also have chemical compounds that are also used to make things easier. For example, instead of writing sodium hydroxide over and over, we can just write NaOH. Confused yet? Good thing this isn’t grammar school!
